News Highlights

  • RE is working on two all-new 650cc motorcycles for India
  • The upcoming 650cc bike would have the same chassis as the RE 650 twins
  • Royal Enfield will launch 28 new bikes in India in next 7 years

Royal Enfield has filed a trademark for the 'Shotgun' moniker in India. It is believed that the brand's upcoming all-new 650cc cruiser could be christened as Royal Enfield Shotgun. Recently, Mr. Vinod Dasari (CEO) on the sidelines of Royal Enfield Meteor 350 launch event had said that the company will launch a new motorcycle every quarter for the next seven years in the Indian market. This accounts for a total of 28 new RE bikes and hence, the Chennai-based bikemaker will need a plethora of new names.

Besides the Shotgun, Royal Enfield has also registered names like Hunter, Roadster and Sherpa. It has been learnt that the new Royal Enfield 650cc motorcycle will be based on the same chassis as Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. The company had debuted an all-new 650cc platform in 2018 with the aforementioned bikes. Various spy-shots have confirmed that the brand is working on at least a couple of 650cc motorcycles, if not more. One of the two products will be a cruiser with conventional ergonomics while the other will boast of more upright ergos with mid-set foot pegs. The former could be called Meteor 650 due to its identical styling with the Meteor 350. Also, the Meteor nameplate is quite popular and hence the company might think of taking it ahead with the new 650cc bike.

The second 650cc motorcycle with mid foot pegs, in all likelihood, will be named as Shotgun. It has been spotted multiple times as a test mule on camera and could be launched by the end of 2021 in the Indian market. Meanwhile, Royal Enfield is all set to launch the next-gen Classic 350 in the country. It could go on sale by the end of May 2021. In addition, the brand is also working on a roadster-style 350cc motorcycle to take on the Honda CB350RS. The motorcycle has been spied testing several times on the roads and it will be launched after the next-gen Classic 350. So, one can expect three new Royal Enfield bikes in India this year if all goes well and no lockdown is imposed due to COVID-19.
