Volvo XC40 Recharge EV was officially unveiled today in Delhi, India. With the new model, Volvo is all set to join the fast-growing luxury EV segment in the Indian market. Volvo XC40 Recharge EV bookings will commence from June later this year with deliveries slated to begin from October 2021 onwards. The all-electric SUV is part of Volvo’s ambitious plans to sell only electric cars from 2030.

The fully-electric XC40 is based on the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform which was launched in global markets last year. The first Volvo pure electric SUV will go into production at Ghent, Belgium. It will rival the likes of Mercedes-Benz EQC and Jaguar I-Pace in India. Price disclosure hasn’t happened yet but expect Volvo XC 40 Recharge EV to be priced around Rs 60 lakhs (ex-showroom, India). It will be coming to the country via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge EV is quite similar to the standard XC40 crossover. At the front, the manufacturer has swapped the white-finished panel for the grille. Plus, it will ride on a set of new alloy wheels. The SUV comes with 31-litre storage space under the bonnet, as there is an electric motor instead of a conventional engine.

Volvo XC40 Recharge EV is powered by a dual-motor powertrain with 150 kW electric motors on each axle. The SUV will deliver a power output of 408 bhp and 660Nm of peak torque. The electric motors are powered by a 78 kWh battery pack with the manufacturer claiming a range of 420 kms on a single charge. It can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.9 seconds, quite identical to the conventional fuel-powered Volvo cars selling currently. The battery can be recharged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 40 minutes using a fast charger.

Volvo plans to bring one EV to India every year from 2021 onwards. Also, there is a new C40 electric crossover launch in the country later this year.
