Even though one can find a range of motorcycles on the market, there are a few models that have managed to make their mark in the challenging two-wheeler segment. The Bajaj Platina 125cc and Hero Splendor Plus have managed to attract a lot of buyers ever since their first official launch in the country. However, both these motorcycles feature different sets of engines, prices, and features. Let’s discuss each model separately.

Bajaj Platina 125cc

Bajaj Auto first launched the Platina 125cc in the country in 2007. The robust 125 DTS-Si version features the same engine as the Bajaj XCD model. It replaced the famous 100-cc commuter bike in the brand’s lineup.

Bajaj Platina 125cc Specifications

The Bajaj Platina 125cc features a range of amenities, including AHO (Auto Headlamps On), electric starter, speedometer, exhaust-TEC engine, digital CDI with TRICS ignition, SNS type rear suspension, and alloy wheels.

The motorcycle draws power from a 4-stroke, SOHC, DTS-I engine that generates 8.4 bhp of peak power at 7,000 rpm and peak torque of 10 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The bike has a top speed of 90 km/h and a mileage of 70 km/l.

The Platina 125 features a hydraulic telescopic fork up front and SNS-type dual hydraulic shock absorbers at the back. For braking duties, the Bajaj Platina 125cc gets a 110 mm drum brake at both ends. It provides a ground clearance of 160 mm, and the seat height is measured at 785 mm. The bike has a kerb weight of 110 kg and a fuel tank capacity of 110 kg.

Hero Splendor Plus

The Hero Splendor Plus first arrived in the Indian market back in the early 1990s. The motorcycle was first unveiled as the Hero Honda Splendor, and it quickly became one of the highest-selling bikes in India thanks to its fuel efficiency, low maintenance costs, and affordability. Over the years, Hero Splendor Plus has undergone various upgrades.

On the feature front, the Splendor Plus has an instrument console, trip meter, speedometer, odometer, XSens technology, passenger footrest, integrated braking system, side stand indicator, and more. In terms of dimensions, the commuter bike measures 720 mm in width, 2000 mm in length, and 1052 mm in height. The Hero Splendor Plus has a fuel tank capacity of 9.8 litres. It has a ground clearance of 165 mm, while the wheelbase is 1236 mm.

Powering the Hero Splendor Plus is a 97.2 cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke, single-cylinder OHC engine that churns out a maximum power of 8.02 bhp at 8000 rpm and peak torque of 8.05 Nm at 6000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 4-speed transmission unit. The bike offers a certified mileage of 80.6 kmpl. For braking duties, this commuter model gets drum brakes at both ends with an Integrated Braking System (IBS). Suspension duties are performed by telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers at the front, and at the rear, the bike gets 5-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers.
