The German carmaker has introduced the facelifted version of the Volkswagen Passat at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. The Passat gets mild cosmetic changes on the exterior as well as interior and a few more features on offer. It is based on the same platform as its predecessor in the US market but there are significant sheet metal changes on the car.
The front profile looks bold thanks to the large grille, LED headlights and a long hood. The side profile now looks more sporty thanks to the new 19-inch wheels on the range topping version and a sloping roofline. The rear profile also looks mature with new and large tail lights. The interiors get revised and there is an Audi inspired dashboard that gets air vents across the width of the dash and simplistic yet premium styling.
It is loaded with equipment including Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Monitoring, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Traffic Alert. Moreover, they can be specced with Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist and Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.
Powering the Volkswagen Passat is a 2.0-litre turbo 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces a maximum power output of 174 HP and a peak torque of 281 Nm. Mated to this engine is a 6-speed automatic transmission. In India, we get the European version of the Passat which is quite different from this model.
