The Austrian bike maker, KTM had showcased the prototype Duke 790 in November 2016. This bike is available globally, however, the company hasn’t yet confirmed the launch of this naked bike for our Indian market. But a KTM dealer from Pune has teased that the Duke 790 will be coming to India by the end of this year.
The bike will be available to us via CKD route along with some locally manufactured components. The major components like engine, chassis and suspension are expected to be shipped from Austria. Whereas, alloy wheels, body panels, handlebar, mirrors, wiring harness and electricals will be made locally. The bike will come equipped with traction control, launch control and multiple riding modes.
Powering the Duke 790 will be a 799cc liquid-cooled parallel twin engine which churns out 103.5 BHP and 86 Nm of torque. The power unit will be mated to a 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch. KTM is expected to price the Duke 790 somewhere around Rs. 6 lakhs and at this price point it will rival against the Kawasaki Z900, Triumph Street Triple S, Suzuki GSX-S750 and Ducati Monster 821.
