The Mahindra Thar has been the market leader in the Indian lifestyle SUV segment since its launch in 2020. It has rightly established itself as one of the most popular SUVs in the Indian market. Previously, due to its popularity among customers waiting for the Mahindra three-door lifestyle SUV, it exceeded over one year for some models. However, due to inclined production and better monthly delivery rates, the waiting period for the Thar is now only around three months, and the company has increased its production capacity and is delivering more units per month.
The brand has successfully reduced the waiting period for the Thar SUV. The 4x4 variants now have a waiting time of up to three months, while the 4x2 version has a waiting period of just over two months. This update comes soon after Mahindra launched the Thar Roxx, a more utilitarian five-door off-road vehicle.
Mahindra Thar Prices in India
The current price of Mahindra Thar in India starts at INR 11.35 lakh (ex-showroom), and it goes up to INR 17.60 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top model. On the contrary, the recently launched Mahindra Thar Roxx price in India commences at INR 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom). For the top-end version of the recently launched Thar Roxx, customers will have to pay a premium amount of INR 22.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
Mahindra Thar Variant-Wise Waiting Periods
The exorbitant demand for the Mahindra Thar has led to fixing the waiting time for the 4x4 variants to three months maximum. Both soft-top and hard-top petrol options of the Thar 4x4 now get a maximum waiting time of just three months, while the diesel model offers a waiting period of only two months. For the soft-top convertible option, the waiting period is still as long as three months for both petrol and diesel engines. On the other hand, for the 4x2 variant, buyers will have to wait approximately two months.
Engine Options and Performance
The new-generation Mahindra Thar 4x4 is being offered in two powertrain choices: a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol. Both these engines are paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic as an option. The petrol engine produces 150 bhp of power output, and the diesel engine generates 130 bhp of power output.
The Mahindra Thar 4x2, on the other hand, is available with a 1.5-litre diesel engine that is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. There is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine on offer as well, which is shared with the 4x4 variant. The diesel engine generates 116 bhp peak power and 300 Nm of maximum torque. This diesel engine gets a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, while the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol motor is only offered with a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
