Honda has officially unveiled the hatchback version of the executive sedan, Civic, in the global markets. It is the latest addition to the all-new 11th generation Honda Civic sedan lineup. The new Civic hatchback adopts a slightly more conservative approach to its design in comparison to the outgoing model. It will be offered in a total of four trims namely LX, EX-L, Sport, and Sport Touring.
Upfront, it features a new radiator grille donning a honeycomb mesh pattern. The hatchback continues to sport a smooth coupe-like roofline. On the side, it gets 18-inch petal-shaped dual-tone alloy wheels. The rear end boasts of wraparound LED tail lights connected by an LED light strip. Other design bits include a shark fin antenna and twin exhaust tips with chrome surrounds. Dimensionally, the new Civic is 4549mm long, 1801mm wide, and 1415mm high. The model comes with a wheelbase of 2736mm. Moving on, the windscreen pillars have been pushed back by 50mm, which further gives the hatch a sporty appeal.
Inside the cabin of the new Civic hatchback, the dashboard gets a honeycomb pattern treatment. The physical buttons and knobs for the climate control & infotainment unit have been retained from its predecessor. The rear legroom space has been increased by 35mm. The top-end trim of the Civic will feature a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. While a smaller 7.0-inch unit is offered as standard. Furthermore, the hatchback also gets a new 10.3-inch digital instrument console, wireless phone charging, a 12-speaker premium Bose sound system, heated seats among many others.
In terms of safety, the 2022 Civic features up to 10 airbags, a full suite of Honda Sensing active safety technologies. The Honda Sensing offers a wide array of features such as blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian and cyclist detection among many others.
Performance-wise, Honda Civic retains the 1.5-litre inline 4-cylinder turbo petrol unit from the outgoing model. The motor churns out a maximum power of 180 bhp and a peak torque of 240 Nm. The hatchback also gets a 2.0-liter inline-four naturally aspirated petrol mill that generates 158 bhp power and 187 Nm peak torque. Transmission options include a CVT automatic and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
