It all started with a superbowl advertisement featuring basketball great Le Bron James with teasers tantalizing the worldwide audience. The wait is finally over as General Motors finally revealed the Hummer EV Edition 1. From a gasoline guzzling machine to an electric SUV, Hummer EV is a sign of General Motors adapting to 21st-century sustainable development philosophy. With a starting price of $112,595 or Rs 82.27 lakhs in Indian currency, it will rival the Tesla Cybertruck in the International markets. 2022 GMC Hummer EV is powered by latest Ultium battery technology developed in collaboration with LG Chem. The manufacturer claims a range of 560 kms on a single charge. The pickup will be produced at GM's Factory ZERO in Detroit and Hamtramck. The Hummer EV becomes the first fully-electric vehicle that has been added to GM’s product lineup as of now with production scheduled to commence from 2021 last quarter. Customers can pre-book the Edition 1 trim now on GMC's official website.
Interestingly, the American automaker is pitching the Hummer EV as a hardcore off-roader that’s part pick-up truck and part SUV. Moving on to the design, the design is futuristic with attention to details like the unique “H” motif embossed on various parts of the SUV. Further its striking design is highlighted via a six-bar grille up front. The powerful SUV comes with 35-inch OD Goodyear Wrangler All Territory MT tires as standard and can further be upgraded to 37-inch tires. Its wading ability is undisputed as the EV can wade through water as deep as two feet.
Moving on to the interior, GM has put a lot of emphasis on tech features. The cabin comes packed with a huge 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Other standard features include super cruise capability, six-function multiPro tailgate, ultravision with high definition surround vision, digital key among many others. Performance is certainly guaranteed with Hummer EV offering three electric motors that work in tandem with two Ultium drive units to generate impressive power. Thus the SUV belts out 1,000 bhp of maximum power output and 15,500 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duty is taken care of by a new system named e4WD transferring power to all the 4-wheels. The Hummer EV can accelerate from 0 kmph to 97 kmph in just 3 seconds. It further comes with adaptive air suspension and Crab Mode. The Crab Mode in particular helps the vehicle to rotate all four wheels at one go which is hugely beneficial while off-roading.
