Volkswagen gave an update to the 5-seater Tiguan SUV. The facelifted version of Tiguan was unveiled globally last year. Now, it was spotted doing test runs on the Indian roads ahead of the official launch. The Youtuber ‘The Fat Biker’ caught the SUV on his camera. Spy shots of the same have surfaced online.
As per the images, the India-spec model will be in-line with its International counterpart. The majority of the changes have been done on the front part of the SUV. The production-ready test mule was seen flaunting its signature pulled-back headlight cluster with bi-projector LED beams, LED DRLs, and a sportier-looking bumper. We could also see a traditional horizontal three-slat grille embellished in chrome and a new sleek VW logo. Talking about the side profile, the SUV continues to get clean straight lines. However, it gets a new set of alloy wheels. The rear section as seen in the images features a slightly redesigned L-shaped LED taillights and a bumper with a diffuser plate and LED reflector strip integrated into it. Furthermore, we can also see a Tiguan badging written in bold letters across the tailgate.
The images of the 2021 Tiguan facelift give us a slight sneak peek into the cabin. We could see a large touchscreen infotainment unit that is likely to come integrated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a digital instrument cluster. This new facelifted version of the Tiguan 5-seater is likely to retain the seating configuration of its predecessor.
Performance-wise, the upcoming Tiguan 5-seater is likely to be offered with two engine options. A 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol engine churns out 148 bhp power and 250 Nm peak torque while the 2.0-litre TSI turbo petrol unit generates 188 bhp power and 320 Nm peak torque. Transmission options include a 7-speed DSG automatic unit along with paddle shifters. The 1.5-litre petrol unit might also get a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The 2021 Tiguan facelift is likely to reach the showroom by mid-2021. Furthermore, it will be available as a CKD unit that will be locally assembled at VW’s Chakan-based facility near Pune in Maharashtra. Talking about the price, we can expect it to start from Rs 28 lakhs (ex-showroom).
