The new 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 will be based on a ladder-frame TNGA platform.

The upcoming 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser will come with a diesel engine option as well alongside the petrol and petrol-hybrid powertrains. As per the Japanese media, the new iteration of the SUV will be introduced with a 2.8L diesel engine. However, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the launch has been pushed back and the company is now eyeing a June 2021 launch. Toyota Land Cruiser has attained the 'cult' status in the Indian market while it directly rivals the Range Rover Autobiography Edition.

The ongoing Land Cruiser 200's V8 petrol engine which develops top power of 314bhp and peak torque of 460Nm will be discontinued. In addition, the 4.5L twin-turbo diesel engine with power output and torque performance of 335bhp and 650Nm, respectively, will also go for a toss in favour of three new engines. One of the engines would be sourced from the Land Cruiser Prado where it makes 188bhp and 450Nm. Various media reports have indicated that this engine, identical to the Prado, will be offered with a 6-speed automatic transmission in the Land Cruiser 300. Though, exact engine specifications are not revealed yet but they are expected to be a tad higher than the Prado's figures.

"That vehicle is under development, and whatever powertrain it comes with will be suited to the Australian marketplace. Apart from that, we have nothing we can confirm at this point,” Toyota Australia has told us in the past. Earlier, reports have also emerged that the next-gen 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 will also be powered by a 3.5L V6 engine which will be borrowed from the Lexus LS500. This motor generates maximum power of 416bhp and highest torque of 600Nm with the Lexus but it is not confirmed if they will remain the same in the big Toyota SUV. The company will also offered an electric hybrid version of the SUV with the aforementioned engine with more power and torque. This engine will be linked to an 8-speed auto gearbox while 4WD will be available as standard across the entire variant lineup.
