On India’s 72nd Republic Day January 26, 2021, the iconic Tata Safari was unveiled. Making a comeback into the Indian market after a gap of 2 years, the Safari is poised to create a storm in the fast-growing SUV segment. The much-loved SUV's bookings will open on February 4, 2021. The model will start arriving at the dealerships on the same day. The new model in all essentials is a  7-seater version of the Harrier SUV, which was first unveiled at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo under the name of Tata Gravitas. Tata Motors retails the new Safari in 6 variants namely XE, XM, XT, XZ, XT+ and XZ+. The new SUV comes in both 6-seat as well as 7-seat configurations. As we await the official launch of the Tata Safari in India, we explain the different variants and what each one does have to offer the Indian buyer.


2021 Tata Safari XE

Dubbed as the base variant, it misses out on the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system which is present in all other variants. Tata Safari XE trim comes loaded with features such as projector headlamps, tilt & telescopic adjustable steering wheel, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), dual front airbags, hill hold control among others.

2021 Tata Safari XM Trim

Seated over the XE variant, the XM trim provides a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Other features onboard include 6 speakers, front fog lamps, Multi-Drive modes, steering mounted controls, rear wiper washer and follow-me-home headlamps.

2021 Tata Safari XT Variant

The mid-level variant positioned above the XM stands to offer equipment like 8 speakers, rain sensing wipers, auto-dimming IRVM, electrically adjustable & foldable ORVMs, IRA car connected features, push-button start and ambient mood lighting.  2021 Tata Safari XT variant rides on 18-inch alloy wheels. 

2021 Tata Safari XZ Variant

The top-end variant - XZ comes loaded with features like Xenon HD projector headlamps, electronic parking brake with auto hold and front fog lamps with cornering function. As for the interior, the cabin boasts of equipment like an 8.8-inch floating island touchscreen infotainment system, instrument cluster with a 7-inch colour TFT display, premium 9-JBL speakers with subwoofer and amplifier, 6 way powered driver’s seat with adjustable lumbar support, captain seats among many others. Safety features on-board the SUV include 6 airbags, hill descent control as it rides on 18-inch machined alloy wheels. 

2021 Tata Safari XT+ and XZ+ Variant

The XT+ and XZ+ variants are fully loaded versions that stand to provide a panoramic sunroof. Apart from this, the features remain the same as other 4 trims. 

Talking about the powertrain, then the new Tata Safari is powered by a 2.0-litre Kryotec turbo-diesel engine sourced from the Harrier. Performance-wise it delivers 170 bhp of maximum power output and 350Nm of peak torque. Transmission options on offer here include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with no 4WD as of now.
