Tata Safari to make a comeback in the form of Gravitas SUV on January 26, 2021

Tata Motors is all set to re-introduce the iconic Safari SUV in the form of 7-seater Tata Gravitas on January 26, 2021. The company showcased a three-row version of Harrier at the Delhi Auto Expo 2020 with “Gravitas” nameplate. Now the production-ready model will be sold with the “Safari” moniker in the country. Ahead of its official debut, Tata has released a video revealing the sketch of the all-new Safari. The sketch gives us a fair idea of how the SUV will look like.

As per the drawings, the front fascia of the SUV looks similar to the Harrier. It gets a new grille design with chrome-plated tri-arrow elements. There is a Tata logo positioned in the center. The grille design is quite different from the one present on the Gravitas. Talking about the tri-arrow setup, it is similar to the ones seen on the grilles of Tiago and Tigor. This gives a premium appeal to the SUV. Furthermore, the SUV gets a taller stance, running boards, and new alloy wheels. Towards the rear end, the SUV features a more upright arrangement which provides better interior space, especially for the third-row passengers. Besides these, the rest of the design bits are similar to that seen on the Harrier.

Moving on to the interiors, the upcoming ‘Safari’ will sport a similar dashboard layout as the Harrier. It will come equipped with a plethora of features. These will include an 8.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, electrically adjustable driver seat, a sunroof, keyless entry, push-button start, and cruise control among many others. We can expect the SUV to be offered in a 6-seat and 7-seat configuration. In the case of the 6-seater version, the SUV will cater to captain seats. While in the 7-seater version, it will provide bench type seats.

Talking about the powertrain, the new Tata Safari will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that will generate 168 bhp power output and 350Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. As for the price, we can expect the new SUV to fall in the price bracket of Rs 15 lakhs - Rs 22 lakhs (ex-showroom).
