2021 Maruti Swift facelift had its global premiere last year in Japan

Maruti Suzuki will launch the 2021 Swift facelift in the next few days in the Indian market. The current-gen model has been on sale for the last three years in the domestic market. The 2021 Maruti Swift facelift will come with both cosmetic and mechanical updates. It had its global premiere last year in Japan and now it will be finally launched in India. The new hatchback will take on the likes of Ford Figo and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios in the country while it will be pricier as compared to the ongoing model.

Talking about the cosmetic updates, the 2021 Maruti Swift facelift will flaunt a new front grille alongside a few extra color options. Though, the India-spec hatchback has not been revealed yet nor it has been spied but we expect similar updates as the Japanese version. The company is not expected to carry out substantial updates in the cabin as more or less it will be identical to the present model. Though, we might see a new upholstery with upmarket quality while the infotainment system could also be updated with the latest software. Maruti Swift was the best-selling car in the passenger vehicle segment in 2020 in the Indian market despite the economic slowdown and months of lockdown caused due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The current-gen Swift hatch is powered by a 1.2L 4-cylinder K12M petrol engine which delivers a top power of 83bhp and peak torque of 113Nm. The company will replace the aforementioned unit with the new K12N Dualjet petrol engine which will be more powerful. It will generate a maximum power output of 90bhp while the torque performance will remain the same at 113Nm. It will be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard while AMT gearbox will also be offered as optional. This engine also features Maruti's idle start-stop technology which increases the mileage upto a great extent. We have already seen this engine with the DZire which happens to be the most fuel efficient car in India presently.
