The new Genesis G80 sedan spotted undisguised for the first time in India since its global debut

Genesis, a premium sub-brand of Hyundai, had revealed the new G80 sedan in the international markets in March 2020. Recently, the luxury sedan was spotted undisguised doing test runs in Mumbai for the first time since its global debut. However, it is still not clear if the vehicle is a test mule or a private import.

Talking about the new G80 sedan, it is positioned between the smaller G70 and the flagship G90 sedan. Just like its predecessor, it gets a four-door coupe look. Upfront, the new sedan features the luxury brand’s signature ‘crest’ grille. In addition, it also gets split headlights and tail lamp clusters. The cabin looks quite similar to Genesis’s first SUV, the GV80 which also made its debut last year. It gets features like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch infotainment display, and two-spoke steering among others. Furthermore, the cabin boasts dual-tone leather upholstery and wooden trims.

In the global market, the G80 comes with three engine options - a 2.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder, a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6, and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. All three units get an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

The G80 sedan rivals the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series, and Audi A6. In 2019, Genesis was planning to enter the Indian market with the first model set to be an SUV. At present, the brand has two SUVs on sale in the Indian market - the GV80 and Hyundai Tucson-based GV70. However, we are still not sure which one will be the first to arrive in the Indian market.
