2020 Toyota Innova Crysta scored a net total of 82.69 points in the ASEAN NCAP safety test

Toyota continues to make news in the automotive industry with Innova Crysta Facelift being revealed a couple of days ago in Indonesia. This is the first major update for the current generation of the Innova Crysta since it’s launch in 2016. A hugely successful MPV, the 2020 Toyota Innova Crysta received a 5 Star Rating for safety in ASEAN NCAP. This is the third model from the Japanese automaker after the New Fortuner and Hilux pick-up truck to under go this crash test and it came out with flying colours. The model selected for the test was  a pre-facelift 2.0-litre petrol variant with manual transmission currently being retailed in Indonesia. From an Indian perspective, we can expect the facelift version to come with such safety standards when launched next year.

2020 Toyota Innova Crysta, Fortuner and Hilux are based on the same ladder-frame chassis. The MPV scored a net total of 82.69 points which is slightly lower than the other two models. In fact the Hilux pick-up truck and 2020 Fortuner received 83.42 and 87.46 points respectively. Moving on-to the scores for different crash test parameters, the 2020 Innova bagged 45.90 points in adult occupant safety. ASEAN NCAP gave the MPV 21.51 points for child occupant protection and 15.28 points for safety assist technology.

Going by the ASEAN NCAP test results, the MPV will provide safety for its occupants inside the cabin in an event of a crash. The Indonesian spec model picked for the test was equipped with safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), seatbelt reminders for driver and front passenger. The facelift model’s front off-set test score remains the same as the 2020 model as the automaker has not carried out any structural modifications.

2020 Toyota Innova Crysta Facelift is expected to arrive in the Indian market in the coming months with the probability of an early next year launch. The front grille is larger and comes with a thick chrome outline. Also, the grille has five horizontal slats instead of two chrome finished ones in the current model. The headlights get chrome accents with new LED DRL's. It rides on new silver finished 16-inch alloy wheels with some top-end trims featuring diamond-cut finished wheels.

Indonesia-spec Innova Crysta Facelift comes equipped with a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.4-litre diesel engine options. In India, the current Innova Crysta on sale comes fitted with a 2.4-litre diesel and a 2.7-litre petrol engine powertrains. It offers the option of a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter gearbox. It is not clear whether or not the Indonesian spec powertrain will come to the country. Expect Toyota Innova Crysta Facelift to be launched after the introduction of Fortuner Facelift in the country next year.
