The 2020 new-gen Mahindra Thar will be launched on October 2 this year in two variants namely AX and LX with an expected starting price of Rs 10 Lakhs

Mahindra & Mahindra debuted the all-new Thar on August 15, 2020 and launch is slated for October 2. The company has already disclosed a large number of details regarding the design, features, and powertrains. The upcoming Thar will be offered in two variants namely AX and LX. The new top-spec Thar LX is more of a lifestyle product with a list of features that will provide comfort to the passengers. While the AX trim is targeted towards the off-road enthusiasts and comes with basic specifications.


2020 Mahindra Thar AX

The AX variant will get manual IRVM, LED tail-lamps, fixed soft rooftop, 16-inch white coloured steel wheels with 245/75 R16 tyres, 6-seat layout, manual AC, power windows, power steering, mechanical diff lock, and 12V power outlet as standard features. The safety kit comprises of dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Central locking, and Rear parking sensors among others. This particular variant gets a host of optional features. These include rear defogger, roll cage, convertible hard rooftop, 4-way adjustable front passenger seat, remote keyless entry, four-seat layout with Front-facing rear seats, and driver seat height adjust function.

Under the hood, the AX variant will get both the engine options. A 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine that will deliver 187 bhp power and 380 Nm torque. There will also be a 2.2-litre diesel engine. This engine will churn out 138 bhp power. Both the engines will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. 

2020 Mahindra Thar LX

Talking about the LX variant, then it will get some additional features along with the ones already present in the AX variant. Cosmetically, it will get LED DRLs and front fog lights, Fender-mounted antenna, Power-adjustable ORVMs, Moulded footsteps, COnvertible hard rooftop, and Dual-tone bumpers. It will also get 18-inch alloy wheels with 255/65 R18 tyres. As for the interior features, it will get Fabric upholstery, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, USB connectivity, and navigation, Roof-mounted speakers and a colored MID in the instrument cluster. This particular variant will come equipped with a host of safety features. These include Tyre pressure monitor system, Tyre direction monitor, four-seat layout with three-point seat belts for all four passengers, Hill-start and descent assist, Isofix child seat mounts, Speed-sensing front door locks, Follow-me-home headlights, Cruise control, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with rollover mitigation and Steering-mounted controls.

A 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine that will deliver 187 bhp power and 380 Nm torque while being mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. There will also be a 2.2-litre diesel engine. This engine will churn out 138 bhp power. This engine will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox along with 6-speed automatic gearbox as an option.
