Mahindra & Mahindra has finally launched its All-New Generation Thar in the Indian market today

Mahindra & Mahindra has finally launched the much-anticipated Thar at an introductory price of Rs 9.80 lakhs (ex-showroom) today in the Indian market. The SUV is offered in two trims namely AX and LX. The top-end AX variant is priced at Rs 12.20 lakhs (ex-showroom). While the LX variant falls in the price bracket of Rs 12.49 lakhs - Rs 12.95 lakhs (ex-showroom). The company had earlier unveiled the SUV in August 2020. Bookings for it will begin from today onwards. You can book the All-New Thar either online via its official website or by directly visiting the nearest dealership. Furthermore, according to the  company it will be commencing test drives in a phased out manner from today across 18 cities for now. Another 100 cities will be added in phase-2 of the test drive from October 10th. While the rest of the country can experience the test drive from October 15th onwards. Deliveries of the SUV are said to begin from the 1st of November 2020. The All-New Thar will rival against the likes of Force Gurkha that is likely to be launched in the domestic market by end of this year.

 


Cosmetically, the new Mahindra Thar features a new square-shaped black coloured grille, round-shaped headlamps with LED DRLs, and a massive dual-tone bumper upfront. On the sides, it gets large electrically adjustable ORVMs. The AX variant rides on R16 wheels with all-terrain tyres. While the LX variant gets R18 alloy wheels with all-terrain tyres. The rear end boasts of the refreshed tail-lights. The large window and gate-mounted wheel make the SUV look bulky from behind. Furthermore, the SUV features both soft-roof and hard-roof configuration. The lower AX variant gets a fixed hard-top as standard along with a soft roof-top as an option. While the top-end LX variant gets a convertible soft roof-top as an option. 

 


The cabin of the 2020 Thar boasts of an all-black theme with silver accents. It is offered in a six-seater and a four-seater layout. Mahindra has equipped the New Thar with a plethora of features. These include a 17.8 cm touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker sound system, coloured LCD MID, cruise control, and rear parking sensors. The SUV also features all-weather mats, drain plugs, steering-mounted controls, powered windows among many others. The safety kit comprises dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Hill-Hold, and Hill-Descent Control, and ISOFIX child seats as standard. The LX variant gets a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and ESP with roll-over mitigation.

 

Under the bonnet, the All-New Mahindra Thar offers two engine options. A 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine that churns out 150 bhp power and 350 Nm torque. The SUV also gets a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder CRDi diesel unit that belts out 130 bhp power and 320 Nm torque. Both the engines are liked to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. As for the AX variant, it only gets the manual gearbox while the LX variant also gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
