The New-Generation Mahindra Thar will feature a new turbo petrol engine

One of the biggest automobile news of the year so far is the upcoming launch of 2020 Mahindra Thar. On India's 74th Independence Day, Mahindra unveiled the All New-Generation Thar. The SUV will come with a host of changes which include the exterior design and the interior styling. To add further, the presence of an all-new petrol engine will be a welcomed by both the customer as well as the enthusiast. This particular Thar looks imposing, muscular and slightly rugged in its design. With the introduction of Mahindra Thar in the coming days, automotive designers have already started to have field day creating digital renderings. Thus as a result, we recently came across one such rendering of the SUV which has been shared by Motorbeam. The sketch is unique for it showcases the Mahindra Thar as a law enforcement vehicle.

To start off, the Police vehicle comes in an all-black colour scheme. In fact the black finished alloy wheels merge perfectly well with the overall design. Since this is a Police SUV, one can find emergency lights positioned on the top of the roof and in the front in order to alert the traffic ahead. To make things more significant, 'Police Highway Petrol' stickers have been added to the sides. If you have seen any law enforcement vehicle in India, Mahindra Bolero and Scorpio are mainly the favoured choices. The main reason for their popularity is the ruggedness and offroading capacity. In comparison, the Mahindra Thar could not have been the preferred choice due to its two-door design and the interior space which falls short. From its unveil, it has now become clear that the Thar is bigger and imposing than ever with a more powerful engine. Thus the New-Gen Mahindra Thar could become a more viable option for enforcement agencies in the future.

The SUV’s new version might be getting a lot of traction but there is one sticking point out here which is that the front grille looks awkward and out of place in the new Thar. It would be interesting to note if automotive designers would take the New Thar and modify the front grille. The New Mahindra Thar will come equipped with two powertrains, a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel and a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engines. Talking about the power output, diesel engine will churn out 132 bhp of power while the petrol unit is expected to delivers 150 bhp. The transmission options will include a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic stick for both models. Prices have not been revealed yet but we expect it to lie between Rs 10 lakhs - Rs 15 lakhs (ex-showroom), India.
