Last week, 2020 Mahindra Thar made news for making an entry into the list of safest cars in the Indian market. The New-Gen Mahindra Thar received a 4-star rating from Global NCAP. The autonomous organization audits various models in emerging countries like India for safety protection of adult and child occupants in the event of a crash. The popular off-roader scored the highest rating among all body-on-frame SUVs to be tested by the Global NCAP so far. This is an illustration of Mahindra’s focus on safety considering its earlier two models namely XUV300 and Marazzo are also part of the list. In a way, the All-New Thar can be called the safest off-roader in the Indian market. Thus, we take a look at the Top 10 safest cars in India as per the new list shared by Global NCAP on its Twitter handle.

Mahindra XUV300

Mahindra XUV300 is the safest car plying on Indian roads. The compact SUV received a 5-star rating for adult occupant safety and 4-star for child occupant safety by Global NCAP. Mahindra has packed the vehicle with safety features like 7 airbags, segment-first 4 disc brakes, front parking sensors, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and ABS with EBD. Additionally, there are ISOFIX child seat mounts and seat belt reminder for all the seats to provide an additional layer of protection.

Tata Altroz

Tata Altroz was launched in January earlier this year in India. The premium hatchback received a 5-star rating from Global NCAP in adult occupant safety category. The organization awarded 3-star in child occupant protection category to the Altroz. Plus, safety features on-board include dual front air-bags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking camera, parking assistance, ISOFIX anchorage for child seats among many others.

Tata Nexon

Tata Nexon is the first made-in-India car to receive Global NCAP’s prestigious 5-star crash test rating. The subcompact SUV received five stars for Adult Occupant Protection and three stars for Child Occupant Protection. The BS6 compliant model comes packed with safety features like dual front airbags as standard, ESP, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX, height-adjustable seatbelts and reverse parking assist.

Mahindra Thar

New-Gen Mahindra Thar has made its entry into the list of 'Top 10 safest cars in India' for the very first time. Recently, the popular off-roader received 4-star crash rating by Global NCAP. The SUV also received the highest-ever rating for a body-on-frame SUV ever tested by the autonomous safety rating organization. It also bagged the second-highest point in child safety protection by Global NCAP. Safety features onboard comprise of dual front airbags, ESP, hill hold & descent control, ABS with EBD among many others.

Tata Tigor/Tiago

Tata Tigor and Tiago bagged 4-star rating from Global NCAP. Tiago hatchback is packed with safety features like dual airbags, Corner Stability Control, ABS with EBD, reverse parking camera & sensors, speed-sensitive auto door locking system among many. On the other hand, Tiago Facelift subcompact sedan comes with a host of safety equipment like dual front airbags, rear parking sensors & camera, Corner Stability Control, ABS with EBD.

Volkswagen Polo

German cars are known for their build quality and it isn’t a surprise to see Volkswagen Polo as one of the safest cars in India. The premium hatchback bagged a 4-star rating by Global NCAP. In adult occupant safety protection, Polo received 4-star while in child occupant safety, it was awarded 3-star. The latest edition of the Polo comes loaded with safety features like dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, ISOFIX child anchorage points among others. The galvanised steel body enclosed by a laser-welded roof gives adequate protection to the occupants in the event of a crash.

Mahindra Marazzo

Mahindra cars continue to make their presence felt in the safest cars in India list. Mahindra Marazzo became the first made-in-India MPV to earn a 4-star rating from NCAP. The safest MPV received two stars in child occupant safety which lowered its overall rating. Marazzo’s all variants come equipped with 4 disc brakes and dual front airbags. Also, the MPV is loaded with safety equipment like ABS with EBD, impact & speed sensing auto door locks, ISOFIX child seat mount and child safety lock on the rear doors.

Toyota Etios

Toyota Etios is ranked 9th in the safest cars list but it is currently discontinued in India. Toyota had discontinued Etios, Liva and Corolla Altis in the country following the move to stringent BS6 Emission Norms. It is a piece of good news for the existing Etios customers as it bagged a 4-star rating in adult occupant safety and two-star in child protection category.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

Maruti Suzuki is receiving a lot of bad publicity following the disappointing crash test result of S-Presso. Maruti Vitara Brezza rounds off the top 10 safest cars in India with a 4-star rating in adult protection category and a 2-star rating in child occupant safety. The subcompact SUV comes with driver and co-passenger airbags, ABS with EBD and Suzuki’s Total Effective Control Technology.
