The 4-door Mahindra Thar takes design inspiration from Jeep Wrangler; features a longer wheelbase and extra two doors.

Mahindra & Mahindra is likely to launch the New-Generation Thar anytime soon. The 2-door off-roader is all-set to witness a generation leap in terms of design, features, and engine specifications. Until now we were excited to get the news of dealerships accepting bookings of the upcoming Thar when we got the news of the 4-door version of the SUV being imagined digitally.

According to these rendering images, the 2020 Mahindra Thar resembles the Jeep Wrangler. But whether it will be getting a 4-door layout like the Wrangler is still not yet confirmed. From the rendered images, it looks more proportionate than its 2-door counterpart. In terms of design, the off-roader SUV gets subtle changes in the form of a longer wheelbase and two extra doors.

Cosmetically, the rendered Thar offers a host of features. These include a seven slats grille, circular LED headlamps along with a black front bumper. The elements mentioned here are similar to the ones present in the Jeep Wrangler SUV. Further, it carries the fog lamp assembly and bonnet from the current-generation model. In comparison to the 2-door model, the 4-door Thar gets square-shaped rear wheel arches instead of circular one. Also, the rear quarter glass is smaller in size as the second-row seats get the operational windows.

When we talk about the 2020 Mahindra Thar (2-door), then the test mules have been spotted testing on the public roads on multiple occasions. It is expected to be launched in August this year. However, many dealerships have started accepting bookings for the same. In terms of design, it gets an aggressive look due to the Generation change. The off-roader is likely to get new features along with a petrol engine. Plus it is likely to provide major changes in terms of the interior features. The cabin is expected to get a new upholstery with premium seats. The most major update will be in the form of front-facing rear seats that will provide more space and safety for the passengers seated at the back. Mechanically, the off-roader SUV will get a new BS-6 compliant 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both the engines will be linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox along with an automatic gearbox as an option.
