BMW has launched the next generation X3 M and X4 M. Both cars are slated to go into production by April, 2019.

The 2020 X3 M and X4 M powered by a new twin-turbo 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and a rear-biased all-wheel drive system. This setup produces 479 PS of peak power and 598 Nm of torque. This enables the X3 and X4 M to accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 4.2 seconds while the top speed is limited to 280 km/hr.

If the X3 M and X4 M do not satiate your hunger for performance, you could order the X3 and X4 M Competition. The Competition variants have an upgraded engine that develop 510 PS of peak power but the torque figures remain unchanged at 598 Nm. This helps the models to be about a second quicker as they cover the 0-100 km/hr run in 4.1 seconds while the top speed is increased to 284 km/hr with the optional M Driver’s Package.

Other performance upgrades include suspension upgrades like custom swivel bearings, torque arms and wishbones up front and custom bushings, beefier anti-roll bars and an assortment of model-specific components at the rear suspension. The chassis has also been strengthened, as a part of this, the front end has M-specific bracing including a strut tower brace and a new A-strut by the firewall. Moreover, both cars get a large rear brace and model-specific rear axle control arms to further increase torsional stiffness.

Furthermore, the crossovers get an Active M Differential, an Adaptive M Suspension and an M Servotronic steering system with a variable ratio. BMW have also installed a high-performance braking system which features drilled and ventilated discs that measure 395 mm up front and 370 mm at the back.

The 2020 X3 M and X4 M have unique design elements as well to differentiate them from the regular models. They get a black grille and a more aggressive front fascia with larger air intakes. Others changes include aerodynamic mirror caps, a unique rear diffuser and a four-tailpipe exhaust system, M-specific spoilers, additional body color components and 20-inch wheels with a polished orbit grey finish. The Competition variants look quite similar to are largely identical, but get few significant changes like the high-gloss black accents, 21-inch wheels and an M Sport exhaust system with black chrome tailpipes. Later this year, Customers will also be able to order an optional M Carbon exterior package which adds a number of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic components including a rear diffuser and mirror caps.

The interior of both the cars get Vernasca leather sport seats, aluminum carbon structure trim and a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel. Other additions are an M-specific instrument cluster, a unique shifter and center console-mounted knee pads. The X3 M and X4 M Competition get a special badging and standard M Sport seats in extended Merino leather as exclusive additions. Both cars are equipped with adaptive LED headlights, GPS navigation and a Harman Kardon audio system. The cars get an assortment of driver assistance systems including Active Guard, Active Protection, Active Driving Assistant and Frontal Collision Warning with City collision mitigation.
