After teasing the 2019 CLA extensively Mercedes-Benz has finally lifted the wraps off it. Mercedes revealed the 2019 CLA at the 2019 CES currently being held in Las Vegas. The 2019 The next-gen Mercedes CLA is no longer the entry-level sedan offered from the brand given the introduction of the A-Class sedan.
The 2019 CLA is 48mm longer and 53mm wider than its predecessor. The car also boasts of a 30mm longer wheelbase and sits 2 mm lower as well. This translates into a more spacious cabin for the rear occupants while also making the car look even sportier and purposeful than it did in its last generation. The 2019 CLA now looks more like a baby CLS and that definitely does add lots of appeal to the car’s character.
Mercedes has given the 2019 CLA its MBUX dual-screen setup which made its debut in the all-new A-Class. This system packs in lots of features like the ‘Hey Mercedes’ advanced voice control and interior assist that activates screens and control surfaces according to the hand’s proximity. Other features include a slew of driver assist systems seen on the much more expensive S-Class such as active adaptive cruise control, lane-change assist, steering assist and parking assist. The addition of such features and a very classy interior design makes the 2019 CLA a lot more desirable than its dated predecessor.
Mercedes showcased the second-generation CLA in the 250 guise that is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. It produces 225 PS of peak power and 350 Nm of torque. Mercedes said that the CLA will be offered with almost all engine option as seen on the A-Class while 4Matic all-wheel drive will be optional. According to Mercedes, the 2019 CLA is the most dynamic car in its range of entry-level offerings. To justify this, the 2019 CLA’s front and rear tracks have been widened by 63 mm and 53 mm, respectively. Moreover, it will come with a decoupled multi-link rear suspension for reduced noise and vibration, a fatter stabilizer bar for reduced body roll and optional adaptive dampers. The car also boasts of a drag coefficient of 0.23.
It will be launched in Europe by May 2019 and in the U.S by late 2019. We can expect Mercedes to launch the 2019 CLA in India towards the end of this year.
