Tata HBX

News Highlights

  • Tata HBX will rival Mahindra KUV100 and Maruti Ignis
  • Tata HBX looks like a mini Harrier in the spy-shots
  • Tata HBX price could be in range of Rs 4.50-7 Lakhs

Tata Motors has been working on a micro-SUV for the past two years for the Indian market. Being codenamed as Tata HBX, it was sighted on several occasions previously as a test mule. Recently, it was spotted again in a production-ready avatar by our friends at Motorbeam, indicating that it is on track for its festive season launch this year in India. The HBX could be named as Tata Timero while it would be taking on the likes of Mahindra KUV100 NXT and Maruti Suzuki Ignis in the country. The prices could start from Rs 4.50 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).

Underpinning the Altroz's ALFA architecture, Tata HBX adorns the brand's IMPACT 2.0 design language. As the spy-images suggest, the front fascia is identical to the Harrier with sleek LED DRLs and headlamps placed lower on the front bumper. One can also notice the black body cladding and alloy wheels in the images. The bumpers are also not finished in the body color. The A-pillar, B-pillar and C-pillar also come with black finish while the roof will be offered with multiple paint shades to create the "floating roof" effect. Though, we do not have the image of interior right now with us but it has been spied earlier and it carries most of the elements of the Concept version which made its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Tata HBX is likely to come with a plethora of premium features in the form of multifunction steering wheel, automatic climate control, and floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. On the safety front, it will be equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, seat-belt reminder system and many more as standard. Under the bonnet, the HBX will carry a 1.2L petrol engine which will be sourced from the Tiago. The power output and torque delivery figures are expected to be the same as the Tiago at 85bhp and 113Nm, respectively. The engine will be available with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearbox options.
