Nissan Magnite's launch at a special introductory price of Rs 4.99 lakh is easily one of the major highlights of this year. It is almost 1.7 lakh cheaper than the nearest rival Kia Sonet in terms of pricing in the subcompact SUV segment. With the launch of Magnite, Nissan is aiming to break into the uber-competitive and lucrative subcompact SUV segment. Such is the customer response that Magnite's bookings have crossed the 15,000 mark within 17 days since its launch on the 2nd of December 2020. With such an affordable price, it is giving competition to rivals like Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Toyota Urban Cruiser in the country. The base variant currently retails at a price tag of Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom) till the 31st of December 2020. Post that, the price would increase to Rs 5.54 lakh (ex-showroom). With such an affordable pricing, the base XE variant seem to be in high demand with its waiting period going up to as much as 6 months.

As per the recent developments, the deliveries are said to begin from mid-January, 2021. The waiting period normally occurs when the model’s success exceeds the manufacturer expectations as we saw in the example of 2020 Mahindra Thar. With the rise in bookings, expect Nissan to ramp up production at its Chennai manufacturing facility. The subcompact SUV is currently available in 4 variants - XE, XL, XV and XV Premium. As for the high in demand XE variant, it comes with one engine option which is the 1.0-litre B4D petrol.

The lower-end variant’s exterior design flaunts halogen headlamps, body-coloured front and rear bumpers, coloured roof rails and split taillights. Its premium look is enhanced with the chrome influence on grille, bumper and fenders. Inside, the cabin it comes loaded with features like an LED instrument cluster with 3.5-inch LCD display, gearshift indicator, adjustable headrest front & rear among many others. The trim does not offer the 7-inch TFT Advanced Multifunctional infotainment system found in the top-end variants. Safety features on-board include airbags for driver and co-passenger, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminders for front-row occupants, child lock among others. Its 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit delivers 72 bhp of power output and a peak torque of 96 Nm @3500 rpm. The transmission duty is taken care by a 5-speed manual gearbox.
