Suzuki Motor Gujarat Pvt Ltd recently achieved a new production milestone by rolling out its one millionth car off the assembly line. Basically, Suzuki Motor Gujarat is a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation for the production of cars in India. The Gujarat plant was started in February 2017. It has been set up with an investment of Rs 126.8 billion. Until March 2020, the plant employed 1800 people. Also, in just a span of 3 years and 9 months, the plant has become the fastest production site of Suzuki to reach 1 million units. In 2017, the plant rolled out its first car in the form of Baleno and now it has hit the key milestone of one million units with none other than the Baleno being the 1 millionth car. Furthermore, Maruti Baleno is exclusively manufactured in India in line with the ‘Make in India’ initiative by the Government of India.

The Gujarat plant started the production of the Baleno in February 2017 which was followed by the production of Swift in January 2018. The production of Swift was earlier started at Maruti’s plant in Manesar, Haryana. Later on, it was shifted to the Gujarat plant. Suzuki’s Gujarat production facility commenced the production for exports in March 2018. Following this in January 2019, the second production site, the B plant, and the powertrain plant started operation due to the growing needs both in the Indian and global markets.

Talking about the FY2019, Suzuki Motors has managed to sell approximately 1.44 million units and produce 1.58 million units in India. Out of which, the Gujarat plant has alone accounted for 25 percent of production units in India. The Covid’19 pandemic has created a lot of hassle across the country. It has also affected the whole automobile industry. But with things getting better, many companies have resumed their production. Suzuki too has been adhering to all the safety protocols while carrying out its production.
