Maruti Suzuki XL6

Maruti Suzuki has launched the XL6 in India and a question that will pop up in the head of every prospective customer is; what is the difference between this new vehicle and the Ertiga MPV that is already available in the market at a cheaper price point? Well, let us take care of the doubts that are plaguing the minds of a lot of people out there as we take a look at what different things does the newly launched XL6 has to offer that one cannot get on the Ertiga.

Dealership

Unlike the Ertiga which is sold via Arena dealerships, the XL6 will be sold via the more premium NEXA dealership of the brand. The NEXA dealerships already sell other models of the brand like the Ignis, Baleno, Ciaz and S-Cross. All of these models are at the premium end of the Maruti line-up in India so one can be assured that the XL6 too is a premium product. Not to mention that the NEXA dealerships offer personalised service that makes the customers feel special.

Price

Yes, the XL6 is more expensive than the Ertiga, the XL6 will only be sold in two variants in the market and the starting price for the XL6 is Rs. 9.72 lakh, ex-showroom. This makes is significantly more expensive than the Ertiga MPV in the market as the range for Ertiga starts at Rs. 7.55 lakh, ex-showroom. The range for XL6 tops out at Rs. 11.46 lakh, ex-showroom.

Engine

The company will sell the XL6 with a SHVS mild-hybrid 1.5L petrol engine rated to deliver 105 Bhp and 138 Nm. This petrol mill will come paired to a 5 speed manual and 4 speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The mileage for the manual transmission version is 19.01 km/l while the 4-speed automatic version returns a maximum of 17.99 km/l (ARAI figures). Whereas the Ertiga is sold with both petrol (same as XL6) and diesel (1.5L unit) options in the market.

Middle Row

In order to keep the cabin spacious and more upmarket Maruti offers six seats on the XL6. These seats are in the 2-2-2 layout and comprise of captain seats in the middle row with slide and recline function. This is quite different from the Ertiga which is sold in a 7-seater configuration and the middle row seats there cannot be reclined and also happen to be bench seats.

Interior

The new XL6 is also a lot more premium from the inside. Apart from the increased space and the presence of captain seats in the MUV, one can see the usage of premium materials like leather inside the car (in top model only). The shades of black and plum in leather will definitely add to the appeal of the XL6 in the Indian market.

LEDs

As far as the features of the XL6 are concerned, it comes with LED fog lamps, headlamps, tail lamps and DRLs. The all-around LED treatment not only enhances the looks of the XL6, it also makes it much better equipped in terms of long distance driving during night time.

Cruise Control

Yes, this was a feature that was sorely lacking from the Ertiga and now the maker is offering the cruise control feature in the XL6 MUV. This will come as a huge relief for highway cruisers as the cruise control option makes highway driving a lot more comfortable and easier because the driver only needs to control steering input while using the cruise control mode.

Looks

The XL6 MUV has a more aggressive stance, something that looks like a cross between SUV and MPV, with leanings toward the latter. Talking of the front side of the new XL6, the front also carries an aggressive look, courtesy the redesigned grille along with the LED elements in the headlamp. Other exterior highlights include a new front grille, bumper inserts at the front and rear, cladding on the sides, new alloy wheels, roof rails and more cladding on the hatch lid. The 15--inch alloy wheels also boost the looks of the MPV.
