For the first time, Land Rover Defender is hitting the Indian roads. JLR India is launching the Defender SUV launching tomorrow, October 15, 2020, with bookings already underway. Ahead of the launch, the first lot of SUVs was spotted arriving at Mumbai's Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust last week. Earlier this year, the British luxury manufacturer disclosed the Land Rover Defender price but do expect an increase by a couple of Lakhs. Land Rover Defender comes in two body styles: 110 (5-door version) and 90 (3-door). As of now, only Defender 110 will be available for the Indian buyers with the door open for the 90 range if there is a good demand for the SUV. The new SUV gets a completely new design and chassis with further improvement in off-roading abilities. The SUV will be retailed in 5 variants- Base, S, SE, HSE and First Edition. The Indian buyers can also opt for four additional accessory packs: Explorer, Adventure, Country and Urban.

Land Rover Defender First Edition will be sold in limited numbers so if you are interested, you need to step up your booking game. It is the top-end model and distinctive from other variants, thanks to a plethora of unique elements such as the First Edition badge, a different set of 20-inch alloy wheels, black accents and a contrasting roof. The First Edition model is based on the SE variant itself. Moving further to other variants in the line-up, all of them including First Edition get the circular Matrix LED headlights as standard. The Defender SUV is easily recognisable due to the signature silhouette, plus the short front and rear overhangs which lend it a compact shape.

Moving on to the interior, the cabin boasts of walk-through configuration. It enables the occupants to move easily from front to second row while boosting storage space. The iconic SUV will be offered with five, six or 5 + 2 seat configuration for the Indian buyers. The front row can accommodate extra passengers thanks to the inclusion of a  jump seat. If you are not planning to use the front jump seat, it can be folded and used as an armrest with 2 cupholders. There is an all-new 10-inch infotainment system, connected navigation pro system, two and three-zone climate control, ventilated seats, wireless charging etc. among other features in the cabin.

Defender SUV comes loaded with a variety of safety features like blind-spot assist Pack, driver assist pack and 3D surround camera. Talking about the performance, Land Rover Defender is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine. The SUV belts out 296 bhp of max power and 400 Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties will be taken care of by an 8-speed automatic unit with an all-wheel-drive system as optional. The twin-speed gearbox will help in different terrains like steep inclines or declines and off-roading environments. Land Rover Defender is coming to the domestic market as CBU route (Completely Built Unit).
