News Highlights

  • Ford EcoSport SE to get a similar rear design as the export model.
  • Ford EcoSport SE to get the same engine options as the regular model.
  • The new EcoSport SE trim to be offered with a puncture repair kit instead of a spare wheel.

Ford India is planning to expand the variant lineup of its popular subcompact SUV, the Ecosport, by introducing a new SE variant. This particular trim will come with an updated rear tail-gate design that will be inspired by the international version of the EcoSport, sold in several overseas markets. Ford EcoSport SE will be positioned below the Titanium and Sport trims.

Talking about the export model of the EcoSport, it is manufactured alongside the India-spec SUV at Ford’s plant in Chennai, India. The export model comes with a unique rear design. The number plate is positioned at the centre of the tailgate. It does come with a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Similarly, the EcoSport SE trim will also not get a factory-fitted spare wheel on the tailgate. Besides these, it will also get features like tubeless tyres, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a puncture repair kit.

Under the bonnet, the new Ford EcoSport variant will house both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variant will draw its power from a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated unit that churns out 121 bhp power and 149 Nm torque. On the other hand, the diesel models will use a 1.5-litre motor that generates 99 bhp power and 215 Nm peak torque. Both engines will get a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The top-end petrol variant will get a 6-speed automatic gearbox as an option.
