Mercedes Benz India has announced the launch of the 2021 S-Class saloon on June 17, 2021 in the country. It will be available in two trims namely 450 petrol 4Matic and 400d diesel 4Matic. Mercedes Benz S-Class will rival Audi A8, Jaguar XJ and BMW 7-Series in the Indian market. It is being learnt that the German luxury automaker will also introduce the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class limousine in India at a later stage. Furthermore, the brand will also launch the recently unveiled all-electric EQS flagship sedan in India.

Mercedes Benz will first retail the 'launch edition' of S-Class in India. It will be sold via the CBU route in batches while local manufacturing is expected to start later. The new sedan will flaunt Mercedes' ‘Digital Light’ LED headlamps and pop out door handles as standard. The cabin will boast of a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a new 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system in a portrait shape with voice, facial and fingerprint recognition. It will also get the OTA (Over-the-air) updates as a standard feature. The system will come with 320GB of in-built memory while the information will be processed by 16GB RAM. Other notable features will include 64 color ambient lighting, heated, ventilated and massage front seats and a Burmester 4D surround sound system.

Mechanically, the 2021 Mercedes Benz S-Class will be available in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The petrol variants would draw power from a 3.0L 6-cylinder in-line turbocharged engine which would belt out 362 bhp and 500 Nm. On the other hand, the diesel variants will be powered by the tried and trusted 3.0L V6 OM656 engine which we have already seen in several other Mercedes Benz cars in India. It will produce maximum power output of 326 bhp and peak torque performance of 700Nm. Both the engines will be offered with a 9-speed automatic gearbox as standard along with the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. The S-Class will debut never-seen-before rear front airbags in the Indian market.
