  • Alongside Mahindra XUV500, New-Gen Scorpio and a new hard-top variant of Thar were spied in Manali.
  • New XUV500 is scheduled to come in April while Scorpio will arrive by the end of Q2 2021.
  • The new Thar was spotted featuring a new grille and a different hard-top.

New-Gen Mahindra XUV500 is one of the much-awaited launches in the country considering the current model is due for an update. Scheduled for launch in 2020, COVID-19 pandemic delayed its arrival in the domestic market. Alongside XUV500, there is a New Scorpio also coming this year.

First, the New Mahindra XUV500 is expected to be arriving in April this year, followed by the introduction of the All-New Scorpio towards the end of the second quarter. Both the upcoming SUV’s were spotted testing in Manali but under heavy camouflage. Both the vehicles seemed to be product spec models; they were spied driving on the hilly roads alongside Mahindra Thar.

It was all captured on camera by YouTube channel CarsZoid Telugu. 2021 Mahindra Scorpio is expected to retail at a price of Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom) while the New-Gen Mahindra XUV500 price should lie in the bracket of Rs 13 lakhs - Rs 20 lakhs (ex-showroom), India.

The upcoming Mahindra XUV500 has been spotted multiple times over the last couple of years but the new Scorpio has rarely been seen testing. With the new images in hand, we can reveal new insights about the upcoming SUV. Scorpio is based on an all-new platform while retaining the silhouette of the outgoing model. With an increased wheelbase, the model will have more space on the inside while being loaded with new features.

The buyer can look forward to a new larger infotainment system with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a new dashboard unit, cruise control and multiple driving modes among others. In addition to these, there will also be a sunroof and wireless charging in the top-end trims.

The New Scorpio will come in both 7-seater as well as 8-seater configurations to compete against rivals like the Hyundai Creta and MG Hector Plus in the country. Moving to the engine options, they will be the same currently powering the New-Gen Mahindra Thar. Thus, the upcoming SUV will come equipped with a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine and a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder CRDi diesel motor.

The former will deliver 150 bhp power and 350Nm torque while the latter should produce 130 bhp of maximum power output with 320Nm of peak torque. Transmission options on offer would be both 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The upcoming XUV500 is going to become the most advanced SUV to emerge from the Mahindra stable. It will become the most affordable car in India to boast of an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS). It will come in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations. With buyers shifting preference towards large SUVs, Mahindra eyes a share in the segment with both the Scorpio and XUV500.

Talking about the features, one can look forward to a large infotainment system, fully digital instrument cluster, steering mounted controls, sunroof, and a reverse parking camera. There would be a completely new interior layout which would provide a revamped dashboard unit. Engine options would be the same as the New-Gen Mahindra Thar. Thus, the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 would be powered by a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine and a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder CRDi diesel motor.

The former should deliver 150 bhp power and 350Nm torque while the latter is expected to produce 130 bhp power output with 320Nm of peak torque. Transmission options here will include a 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed automatic. There are chances of a 4X2 as well as a 4X4 drive system coming with Mahindra XUV500.

Apart from the new XUV500 and Mahindra Scorpio, there was a test mule of Thar on road as well. The new Thar spotted here featured a new grille and a different hard-top. Probably, this is the new Thar hardtop variant expected to arrive later this year. It is expected to be more expensive than the current Thar trim on sale in the country.
